FAQ/Widcomm_Connect_To_Serial_Port
How do I connect to piAccess Link or to a phone's serial port with Windows 2000/XP and Widcomm Bluetooth stack?
- Right-click on the Bluetooth icon on the Windows tray and select Explore My Bluetooth Places:
- From the left pane of the Bluetooth Places window select View devices in range. You will then be presented with a list of previously found devices or you can select Search for devices in range to search for more devices. Select the device which you wish to connect to and from the left pane press Discover services.
- The device, P910i in this example, will then be browsed and all the Bluetooth services that it supports will be presented. Right click on the service of choice, piAccess Link in our case, and select Connect to Bluetooth Serial Port. Similarly you can connect to any other serial service that phone supprts.
- Windows will then connect to the service and will associate a local COM port with the connection. Use that port number, COM9 in this example, in piAccess Mail's? or your phone manager's settings to connect to the phone.
Quick connect feature
After you first connect to your device, the Bluetooth software creates a shortcut to the last serial service you connected. You can access the cached connection from the Bluetooth icon in the Windows tray. Right-click on it and select Quick Connect -> Bluetooth serial port -> P910i (your device name) as shown below:
